Pineapple Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe

I’ve been making smoothies like a crazy person these past few months. My blender has basically moved into the primary real estate on my kitchen counter (sorry, coffee maker, you’ve been demoted). After about a million different combinations, this pineapple strawberry banana smoothie has become one of my favorites.

Why? Because it’s the perfect natural energy booster when I need to function like an actual adult. Like yesterday when I had back-to-back Zoom calls and forgot to eat lunch. This smoothie saved me from turning into a hangry monster by 3pm!

Plus it’s (naturally) sweet and creamy, and it tastes like something you’d sip on a beach in the Caribbean.

Add that protein powder if that’s your thing and you’ve basically got a full breakfast.

What You’ll Need for This Tropical Smoothie

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen pineapple chunks (about 170g)
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries (about 75g)
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1/4 cup coconut cream (60ml) – grab that thick stuff from the top of the can!
  • 1/2 cup almond milk (120ml) or any other plant milk
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • A small handful of fresh mint leaves
  • 1 tablespoon honey or agave nectar
  • Optional: 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • Garnish: fresh mint sprig and a lime wheel

How to Make the Perfect Strawberry Banana Pineapple Smoothie

  1. Throw your pineapple chunks, strawberries, and banana into your blender.
  2. Scoop out that thick coconut cream from the top of the can. You know, the part we’re all secretly hoping for when we open a can of coconut milk.
  3. Pour in your almond milk and squeeze that lime juice. The lime is seriously what makes this different from every other basic fruit smoothie out there.
  4. Toss in those mint leaves! I started adding herbs to my smoothies after binge-watching this Thai cooking show at 2am (my latest insomnia activity).
  5. Drizzle in your honey or agave. I usually taste a bit of my fruit first to see how sweet it is naturally.
  6. Feeling like you need some extra protein? Now’s when you’d add that scoop. I always do this on Monday mornings after yoga when my muscles are screaming at me.
  7. Blend until smooth and creamy. My ancient blender takes about a minute, but your fancy one might be faster!
  8. Pour into your favorite glass and if you’re feeling extra, add that garnish. Or if you’re like me most mornings, just drink it straight from the blender container. No judgment here!

How to Store Your Healthy Smoothie (If You Don’t Drink It All Immediately)

Real talk – this smoothie rarely makes it to storage in my house. But if you have more self-control than me, you can keep it in the fridge for up to 24 hours in an airtight container. Just give it a good shake before drinking since it’ll separate a bit.

For my fellow morning zombies: prep smoothie bags! Just toss all the solid ingredients into freezer bags on Sunday night, and then in the morning, dump into the blender with your liquid ingredients. You’ll thank yourself when you’re running late on Tuesday morning!

Health Benefits of This Breakfast Smoothie (That You’ll Actually Notice!)

Okay, I’m not going to pretend I’m a nutritionist (the extent of my health knowledge comes from questionable TikTok videos), but there are some benefits to this smoothie that I’ve actually noticed in real life.

First, this combination gives me ENERGY. Not that jittery, about-to-vibrate-out-of-my-skin coffee energy (no I’m not dissing you my beloved coffee banana smoothie, I love you too), but actual sustained energy that doesn’t crash after an hour. I’ve started having this before my Wednesday morning yoga, and I swear my balance poses have improved 200%.

The vitamin C content in this smoothie is ridiculous, which is amazing for your skin. Mark actually asked if I’d changed my skincare routine last month because my skin was “glowy.” Nope, just been drinking my fruit instead of letting it rot in the produce drawer!

Pineapple contains this enzyme called bromelain that helps with digestion and inflammation. Super helpful after I’ve made questionable food choices the night before (looking at you, entire bag of Doritos that I added to my tortilla soup).

FAQ: Stuff Y’all Keep DMing Me About This Smoothie

Can I make this banana smoothie recipe without a fancy blender?

Omg YES! 🙌 My old $20 Target blender got me through THREE YEARS of smoothie making before it died (RIP little buddy). Just thaw your frozen fruit for like 5 mins first. I learned this the hard way when I broke a blender during a Mercury retrograde last year… not saying they’re connected but also not NOT saying it? 👀

Is this banana smoothie recipe healthy enough for breakfast?

100%! I have this for breakfast at least 3x a week when I’m rushing to get Ethan to swimming lessons. It’s got fruit, healthy fats, and if you add protein powder, you’re set! WAY better than my previous breakfast of “whatever snacks I find in my purse while sitting in carpool line” lol.

Can I substitute the strawberry in this strawberry smoothie recipe?

Heck yeah! Lisa (my friend who actually went to culinary school unlike my Pinterest-educated self 😂) uses mangoes and it’s BOMB. Raspberries work too! The real MVPs are the pineapple and coconut. Btw when strawbs are $7 for a tiny container (highway robbery!!) I just use frozen mixed berries.

How do I make this into a protein smoothie?

Throw in a scoop of protein powder! Super simple. OK story time – Mark bought me this “high-performance” unflavored protein powder that made everything taste like cardboard dust?? Had to add extra honey AND vanilla to make it drinkable. Don’t be like Mark. Get the vanilla flavored kind from the start!

Will this smoothie help with glowing skin?

K so I’m not a dermatologist (obvs) but MY FACE SAYS YES!! ✨ Started drinking these in January after my birthday (hello 40, ouch) and last week at yoga Anna literally stopped me to ask what new skincare I’m using?? Nothing new, just been consistent with these smoothies! The vitamin C is no joke. Even caught Milo trying to lick my glass the other day – my cat knows what’s up!
