Clear Skin Smoothie: A Drink For Your Skin Care Routine

After months of experimenting with healthy foods that help my skin, I’ve finally created what I’m calling my “Clear Skin Smoothie” – and it’s a game-changer for my morning skin care routine.

I actually did a lot of research on the best foods and drinks for glowing skin, and came up with this smoothie that has lots of antioxidants for a younger skin, healthy fats for a hydrated skin, and antiinflamatory elements that calm irritation.

I made this smoothie because I wanted something simple that actually helps my skin, without needing a 12-step routine or expensive serums.

And I notice a huge difference when I start my day with this instead of my usual coffee-and-whatever-I-can-grab situation. I swear this smoothie gives me glazed-donut skin – no highlighter needed.

This is basically the smoothie version of that viral glow serum everyone’s obsessed with.
If you’re into skin care as much as I am, you need this in your rotation.

What You’ll Need For This Clear Skin Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen blueberries (about 150g)
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt (sometimes I add more if I want it very creamy… it also makes it this beautiful light purple color)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • Small piece of fresh ginger (about 1/2 inch/1.3cm)
  • Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
  • Optional: 1 scoop collagen powder (if you’re into that)

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Let’s Make It!

  1. Add all ingredients to your blender. I like to put the frozen blueberries at the bottom, close to the blades – it helps everything blend more smoothly.
  2. Blend on high for about 45-60 seconds until completely smooth. Sometimes I have to stop and push things down with a spatula if the avocado gets stuck.
  3. Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy immediately! If you’re feeling fancy, top with a few extra blueberries, some turmeric poweder or a sprinkle of chia seeds.
  4. Take a moment to appreciate how you’re literally drinking your way to better skin. I usually sip mine while putting together my daily to-do list or scrolling through Instagram (bad habit, I know!).

Why This Smoothie Works Wonders For Your Skin Care Routine

Not to get all science-y on you, but this smoothie is basically like drinking an expensive facial in a glass.

The blueberries are packed with antioxidants that fight those pesky free radicals that cause premature aging. I’ve actually started keeping extra bags of frozen blueberries because I go through them so quickly!

Avocado brings healthy fats that keep your skin barrier happy and hydrated. Remember when we all thought fat was the enemy? Thank goodness we know better now.

The turmeric and ginger are anti-inflammatory superstars that help calm redness and irritation. My friend Lisa (who has the most amazing skin I’ve ever seen) swears by turmeric in everything.

Chia seeds provide omega-3s which help maintain that glow from within.

Plus, the fiber from chia and berries keeps your gut happy – and you know what they say: healthy gut, happy skin.

And did I mention this tastes amazing? Unlike some “healthy” smoothies that taste like you’re drinking the lawn, this one is actually delicious.

Storage Tips

If you’re a meal-prep queen (unlike me who’s perpetually running late), you can pre-portion the non-liquid ingredients in freezer bags or containers.

Just toss everything except the avocado into separate containers and freeze. When you’re ready, add your liquid ingredients (meaning the almond milk, yogurt and lime juice) and an avocado.

I wouldn’t recommend storing the fully blended smoothie for more than a few hours as the avocado turns blackish and it doesn’t taste good. Plus, the nutritional benefits are most potent when the smoothie is fresh.

FAQ: Your Glowing Skin Smoothie Questions Answered

When’s the best time to drink this smoothie?

I’d say in the morning. For me it’s a part of my morning routine. Your body is in repair mode overnight, so giving it these nutrients first thing helps support that process. Plus, it gives my skin the entire day to soak up all those nutrients.

Can I substitute ingredients?

Absolutely! If you don’t have almond milk, any non-dairy milk works great. And if you don’t like avocado (who are you?!) try a quarter cup of coconut yogurt instead for that creamy texture (plus the healthy fats).

The key players for skin benefits are the berries, healthy fats, and anti-inflammatory ingredients, so try to keep those elements.

Will this smoothie clear up my skin and acne?

While no single food is a magic bullet for acne (believe me, I’d be the first to shout it from the rooftops if it existed), this one of those healthy smoothies that contain ingredients that support overall skin health and reduce inflammation, helping you get a clear and pretty skin. I noticed fewer breakouts after about two weeks of drinking this regularly.

How often should I drink this smoothie for a glowing skin?

I aim for 3-4 times a week. Consistency is key with skin care, whether it’s topical or nutritional!
